Mashangqiao Flower Hall
Mashangqiao Flower Hall is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
Era: Qing Dynasty
Address: Mashangqiao Village, Huxi Town, Dongyang City, Jinhua, Zhejiang Province.
It was first built in the 25th year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1820), completed in the 10th year of the Daoguang reign (1830), and the fourth section, the rear hall, was added in the 19th year of the Daoguang reign (1839). Facing south, it has four sections in total, composed of a gate tower, screen wall, main hall, and two rear halls, with wing rooms on both sides. The main hall is three bays wide, with a total width of 11.6 meters and a depth of 8.2 meters. It features a nine-rafter front porch with a double-step rear section. The central bay uses a post-and-lintel structure, while the side bays use a through-tenon style. It has a flush gable roof. Fan-shaped spandrels are decorated with flowers, landscapes, and pavilions. The bracket arms are carved with hollowed-out immortal tales. The drum-shaped carved column bases are ornate. The wing rooms are connected by long corridors that run through the front and back, and are also linked to the main building. Although the building materials are not lavish, the intricate carvings and painted decorations give it strong ornamental value, making it a typical example of the combination of traditional residential architecture and Dongyang wood carving art.
The flower hall’s gate tower courtyard has 12 rooms, the main hall courtyard has 16 rooms and 2 lanes, the central hall courtyard has 13 rooms and 2 lanes, and the rear hall courtyard has 9 rooms. Each courtyard is relatively independent yet interconnected, so you can move around even on rainy days without getting your shoes wet.
