Tianning Pagoda

Tianning Pagoda is a cultural tourism attraction.

Located on the southern bank of the Chenghe River, it stands opposite and faces across the river to the Drum Tower, together known as the “Twin Jewels” of Zhenzhou. First built during the Jinglong era of the Tang Dynasty (709 AD), it was destroyed during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, rebuilt in the Song Dynasty, and then ruined again in the wars between the Song and Yuan dynasties. Repeatedly constructed and destroyed throughout history, the current structure dates back to the early Ming Dynasty. The exterior of the pagoda is an octagonal, pavilion-style structure with winding corridors on each level, built with a brick-and-wood structure; the interior is square, narrowing layer by layer as it rises in a staggered fashion, presenting a truly majestic overall presence. Currently, only the pagoda body remains, standing 47.2 meters tall, still the highest pagoda in Jiangsu Province, and a scenic site visited by literati throughout the ages when traveling to Yizheng.
