Yangzi Park

Yangzi Park was built in 1988 and opened to the public in early 1990. The park is located in the western part of Yizheng’s old city area, covering a total area of 23 hectares, including approximately 7.34 hectares of lake surface and about 15.66 hectares of land. It was named after the ancient Yangzi County, as Yizheng was known as Yangzi County since the Tang Dynasty.

Inside Yangzi Park there is an earthen mound, commonly known as Tiger Mountain, covered with embracing pines and shaded by lush green trees. Around the lake, rows of weeping willows line the shore, their green reflections mirrored in the water; by the blue waves, clusters of bald cypress trees stand tall, their trunks bulging at the base like spindles—an unusual sight. Near the shore, patches of reeds dot the landscape, where wild ducks and other waterfowl can often be seen skimming across the surface. The park gathers over a hundred species of common local trees and premium flowers, including a 190-year-old ginkgo tree located on the former site of Taishan Palace on the northern side. The park blends lake and mountain scenery into a harmonious whole.

At the upper end of the square at the park’s eastern entrance sits a statue of Professor Sheng Cheng, an internationally renowned cultural figure from Yizheng. Across the lake stands a memorial to his elder brother, Sheng Baisha, an important follower of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s democratic revolution and a revolutionary martyr. The park houses public cultural facilities such as a museum and library, as well as recreational venues including a swimming pool, paddle boats, an amusement park, and fitness spots for all. Other attractions include Kuiguang Pavilion, Plum Blossom Garden, Osmanthus Garden, and Peony Garden, all of which enchant visitors in every season.

Yangzi Park enjoys convenient transportation and a moderate size, making it a rare urban “green lung” and a beloved comprehensive cultural and leisure park among locals.
