Nanjing Bagua Island is covered in lush vegetation, boasts an elegant environment, and features a network of waterways, crisscrossing fields, and the sounds of chickens and dogs in the distance. With a focus on primary and tertiary industries, it is a rare "Shangri-La" in the suburbs of Nanjing.

Nanjing Bagua Island is located 4 kilometers downstream from the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge in the middle of the river, spanning 56 square kilometers — an area even larger than that within the city walls of central Nanjing.

To date, the Qixia District and Bagua Island have invested over 50 million yuan to build a road network that spans the entire island. A number of tourism projects, including the Bagua Culture Park, Bagua Island Holiday Villa, Nanjing Primary and Secondary School Agricultural Science Base, Farm Fun Museum, and Water Amusement City, have been completed. These attractions draw large numbers of urban visitors, who come either in groups or with their families, to stroll along the riverbanks, boat on the waterways, barbecue in the willow groves. In recent years, events such as the Beach Festival, Kite Festival, and Tent Festival have been held, offering one-day trips along the river.

The tourism plan for Bagua Island was led by Wang Ying, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor at Nanjing University, with Geoff Wall, former president of the International Tourism Society and a Canadian, serving as an advisor. The plan takes advantage of the island’s unique natural landforms and highlights its three major features: greenery, water, and wilderness. The island is divided into an eco-agricultural tourism zone, a headland river view scenic area, a willow grove rural resort area, a grassland camping base, a Xiaojing River folk culture zone, and a riverside water recreation area. The focus is on developing leisure vacation, health and wellness entertainment, and camping & study tourism products.

This plan has become a regulatory document for the development of Bagua Island tourism in Nanjing and serves as a platform for attracting private investment and promoting tourism. It aims to transform Bagua Island into an ecological tourism destination known for its widespread greenery, beautiful environment, and rich biodiversity.
