Nanjing Yangtze River Second Bridge is located 11 kilometers downstream from Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. It has a total length of 21.197 kilometers. The entire route includes 4 interchanges, 4 extra-large bridges, and 6 large bridges. It is a six-lane expressway with a designed speed of 100 km/h.

Driving northward from Liutang, the largest interchange in Nanjing, hundreds of silvery steel cables lift a “rainbow” across the mighty Yangtze River. Two towering silver pylons rise high into the sky. Spanning the rushing waters, the bridge lands on Bashizhou, the third-largest island in the Yangtze, then stretches out before leaping again over the surging Jiajiang River, reaching the industrial hub of Dachang on the northern bank. It then spirals down at the Yongzhuang Interchange and merges into the northern Jiangsu transportation network.

The Nanjing Yangtze River Second Bridge is a key national infrastructure project under China’s Ninth Five-Year Plan and also the largest construction project in Nanjing. With a total investment of 3 billion RMB, construction began on October 6, 1997, and the bridge opened to traffic at 12:00 on March 26, 2001—seven months ahead of schedule. It connects four national highways and five provincial roads. The bridge has also played a positive role in promoting the development of tourism in Nanjing. Both the bridge itself and the Second Bridge Park have been opened to domestic and international tourists as new attractions in Nanjing.
