Nanjing Peach Blossom Lake

Since the Ming Dynasty, Peach Blossom Stream has been famed for its riot of peach blossoms in spring. Sheng Shitai, a renowned scholar from Moling during the Ming era, wrote in Records of Qixia Mountain: “In late spring and early summer, red blooms and green foliage intermingle on both sides, and when visitors walk beneath them, their sleeves catch the hues of the season.” With its emerald waters and crimson showers hidden deep in the mountains, it is a wonderful spot for sightseeing. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, the famous Qinhuai courtesan Li Xiangjun also lived in seclusion here and was buried in the woods by Peach Blossom Stream after her death.

To commemorate Li Xiangjun and to expand the scenic area while improving the microclimate of the mountain forest, the Qixia Mountain Scenic Area spent two years constructing the Peach Blossom Lake area in the middle reaches of Peach Blossom Stream. It faces Li Xiangjun’s Tomb across the road and is surrounded by trestle bridges, ancient maples, peach orchards, pavilions, lake water, wave-folded rocks, Tiankai Rock, and the Imperial Garden. Visitors here are often filled with sudden delight, deep emotion, and a natural sense of nostalgia and reverence for history.
