Chengnan Xinyuan Scenic Area

Chengnan Xinyuan Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Xinyuan area is positioned as a classical Suzhou-style garden, covering an area of approximately 48,000 square meters. Drawing on the design and construction concepts of Suzhou gardens, it integrates landscape elements with the local historical and cultural features of Xinyu. With traditional Jiangnan elements such as white walls, gray tiles, chestnut pillars, and small bridges over flowing water, it showcases Xinyu’s “water town impression.” The garden features 56 bilingual (Chinese-English) signage boards, over 30 surveillance cameras, nine guides and interpreters, and provides full wireless Wi-Fi coverage throughout the area.

The garden centers around Zhongwu Lake. Along the shore are pavilions, boat-shaped halls, courtyards, and corridors such as the First Water Pavilion, Zhongwu Academy, Folk Culture Museum, Liuqin Opera Stage, Flower Hall Legacy, and Yaowan Impression. Within the limited space, unique gardening artistry creates distinctive courtyard spaces. Through delicate windows, one can admire exquisitely arranged courtyards dotted with uniquely shaped lake rocks nestled among flowers and trees—truly picturesque and memorable. Strolling through the area, visitors encounter classical buildings that are both well-organized and richly varied. Cobblestone paths stretch out like brocades underfoot, while a yellow-stone rockery is crowned with cascading water, embodying both solidity and ethereal beauty. You may count fish by the railing, watch flower shadows dance across the pavilion wall, discover winding paths leading to secluded corners, or experience ever-changing views at every turn—all offering a taste of Suzhou garden charm without leaving Xinyu.

The garden is planted with over 200 large specimen trees of high ornamental value, including ginkgo, Chinese tallow, camphor, and elm-leaf hackberry, as well as more than 1,000 small trees such as white pine, red maple, black pine, and osmanthus. Together, they create diverse seasonal landscapes—“spring blossoms, summer shade, autumn fruits, and winter forms”—making it feel like a “botanical museum.” Cultural heritage is also preserved here: the Zhongwu Academy carries forward traditional culture, while brick carvings, the Folk Culture Museum, and the Liuqin Opera Stage incorporate local elements. These features bring classical scholarship and Xinyu’s unique charm into the garden, further enriching Xinyuan’s cultural depth and establishing it as an important “cultural museum” in Xinyu.

The Xinyuan Scenic Area Visitor Service Center functions as a comprehensive “tourism supermarket,” offering services such as self-guided travel for individual tourists, group travel for organizations, tourism information consultation, transportation transfers, ticket booking, accommodation, dining, guided tours, and shopping. It is dedicated to providing both local and out-of-town visitors with quality tourism services in Xinyu and surrounding areas, with customer service staff available to assist based on individual needs. To the left of the information center is the reception area, where the rest zone is equipped with multi-port chargers, luggage lockers, strollers, wheelchairs, and other services. Visitors can also access travel information through smart devices such as touchscreens, QR code scanning on mobile phones, and PC-based platforms. Additional offerings include folk culture exhibitions and Liuqin opera performances.
