The Memorial Hall of the Huaibei Revolutionary Base, designed by Mr. Qi Kang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at the School of Architecture, Southeast University, features ingenious conception and a grand atmosphere. The exhibition content spans from the outbreak of the July 7th Lugou Bridge Incident in 1937 to the disbandment of the New Fourth Army’s 4th Division after the victory of the War of Resistance, comprehensively showcasing the heroic and moving deeds of key Party, government, and military leaders such as Deng Zihui, Zhang Aiping, Liu RuiLong, and the people of the Huaibei (Sihong) Base, who united as one and fought bravely in a moving struggle.
Deng Zihui, originally named Shaoji, was born on August 17, 1896, in Ducuo Village, Dongxiao Town. His father, Deng Hongbi, was a practicing physician and later served as the principal of Tonggang Primary School. Deng Zihui attended Tonggang Primary School in his childhood and entered Longyan Middle School (later renamed the Provincial No. 9 Middle School) at the age of 17. In the 4th year of the Republic of China (1915), he organized and gave speeches to protest Yuan Shikai’s acceptance of Japan’s humiliating “Twenty-One Demands.” In the same year, he secretly joined the Chinese Revolutionary Party while in middle school.
