Chengtou Bird Nature Reserve

Chengtou Bird Nature Reserve is located in the southeastern part of Sihong County, on the western shore of Hongze Lake. It serves as an ideal habitat for forest birds, waterfowl, and wintering migratory birds. Established in 1985 with approval from the People's Government of Sihong County, the reserve spans a total area of 10,000 hectares.

According to surveys, the reserve is home to more than 10 species of nationally protected birds, including great bustards, swans, grey cranes, and egrets. Among them, the population of great bustards—a national first-class protected animal—ranges between 300 and 500, making it the largest wintering habitat for this species in China and giving the site certain international significance. There are approximately 400 grey cranes. In 1988, an 18-meter circular bird-watching platform was built within the reserve for bird observation and research purposes.
