The Subordinate Grass Bay Human Fossil Geological Relic Nature Reserve in Shuang’ou, Sihong County, is located on the banks of the Huai River diversion channel within the county. In the 1960s, paleoanthropologists discovered a human femur fossil measuring 15.27 cm here. Research identified it as belonging to a late Paleolithic human, named the “Subordinate Grass Bay Human,” dating back approximately 40,000 to 50,000 years. This discovery refuted the claim that “no traces of primitive humans could be found in the Late Pleistocene strata of southern China” and holds extremely high value for the study of human origins and evolutionary processes.
