Former Site of Dadan Inland River Steamship Company

The former site of Dadan Inland River Steamship Company is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Jiangsu Province.

The former site of Dadan Inland River Steamship Company is located on Beishi Street in Tangzha, facing east toward the Tongyang Canal. Built in 1903, it was the first shipping enterprise founded by Zhang Jian, who served as the company’s general manager. By 1918, the company owned 35 steamships and had established 10 shipping routes. The surviving office building of the company faces west and is a two-story Western-style structure. The exterior walls and interior finishes have been altered, but the rest of the building remains relatively intact. The site also includes the remains of a riverside wharf. Adjacent to the south side of the building is a small structure that once served as the office of the Dadagong Electric Milling Company, another enterprise founded by Zhang Jian. Both sites are included within the protected area.

In March 2019, the former site of Dadan Inland River Steamship Company was included in the eighth batch of cultural heritage conservation units of Jiangsu Province.
