Traveling along the hundred-mile river embankment of Jingjiang, one can see majestic and spectacular shipyards dotted like brilliant pearls along the deep-water area on the northern bank, shining brilliantly to people around the world. The shipbuilding industry has now grown into a pillar industry worth hundreds of billions in Jingjiang, making it China’s largest private shipbuilding base, with nearly ten large-scale shipbuilding enterprises such as New Times, New Yangzi, and Oriental Shipyard, among which Jiangsu New Century Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is the most renowned.

Jiangsu New Century Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is located on the golden waterway of the Yangtze River Delta, 10 kilometers downstream from the Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge, facing the open port of Zhangjiagang across the river. It boasts a shoreline of over 2,100 meters, with broad river surfaces, deep and steady waters, and convenient land and water transportation, providing ideal natural conditions for building various types of ships under 300,000 tons. As early as 1996, Jiangsu New Century Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. pioneered the construction of 10,000-ton ships by local shipyards nationwide. To date, it has built nearly 50 vessels for countries and regions such as Denmark, the Bahamas, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Marshall Islands, Turkey, Greece, Singapore, and Hong Kong, including 73,400-ton product oil tankers, 52,300-ton bulk carriers, and 35,000-ton Great Lakes-type bulk carriers certified by various classification societies. The company’s current main products include 70,000-ton tankers, 110,000-ton tankers, and 4,000–6,000 TEU container ships.

At the shipyard’s dock and factory area, sparks from welding fly, machinery roars, and cranes stand in great numbers, showcasing world-leading levels of industrialization. The well-arranged production scene resembles a painting. The 100,000-ton docks, colossal 100,000-ton ships, and the vast river make one feel as if they are by the Rhine in Europe. The enterprise not only represents a landmark of Jingjiang’s shipbuilding and industrial development but has also become a must-visit industrial attraction for business visitors to Jingjiang.
