The Monument to the Martyrs of the Zhuanghang Uprising is located at the southern end of the eastern market area in Zhuanghang Town. It was first built in 1967 and rebuilt in 1986.

On January 21, 1929, organized by the Fengxian County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and led by figures such as Hang Guoren, Chen Yun, Yan Pu, Mao Xueqin, Liu Xiao, and Tang Yixin, an armed peasant uprising took place in Zhuanghang Town. At around 7:30 that night, the group of over a hundred people was equipped with 17 Mauser pistols, 2 six-inch handguns, and some homemade firearms, but most carried broadswords, pitchforks, clubs, spears, and improvised weapons. The uprising team marched toward Zhuanghang Town in Fengxian under red flags, each member wearing a red cloth armband. They advanced along three routes. Around 8:30, they launched an attack on the Nationalist Public Security Sub-bureau, killing one clerk, wounding two policemen, and causing the bureau chief Zhang Tongkun to flee, while the rest surrendered their weapons. After the sub-bureau was taken, the other two teams arrived in Zhuanghang. The insurgents placed firecrackers inside oil drums to simulate gunfire and intimidate the enemy. They captured Chujing Temple and took three prisoners. The local militia fled, the police unit scattered, and all Nationalist forces in town were neutralized within an hour. The insurgents then occupied Zhuanghang Town. The local gentry and landlords had all fled, and the crowd burned land deeds, IOUs, and debt notes they found by dousing them with kerosene — unintentionally sparking a large blaze that destroyed several houses. Around 10 p.m., insurgents guarding the roads shot and killed Han Yongliang, the town’s local security officer, who was attempting to sneak to Nanzhao in the county seat to send word. During the uprising, more than 30 firearms were seized, but three insurgents — Zhang Sidi, Wang Duosheng, and another — were killed.

At around 2 a.m. on the 22nd, the insurgents regrouped and announced that their objectives had been achieved before ordering a retreat from Zhuanghang Town. Hang Guoren, Chen Yun, Liu Xiao, and others immediately withdrew to Shanghai, while Tang Yixin, Feng Awu, Wu Dalong, Wu Sanlong, and others remained behind to continue the struggle. Five Red Army fighters, including Mao Xueqin and Gao Dasheng, were unfortunately arrested in Shanghai and executed on February 6. CCP members and key uprising participants who stayed behind to keep up the resistance in the county were later arrested by authorities, and comrades such as Tang Yixin gave their lives.

Zhuanghang Town: Approved by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, Zhuanghang Town in Fengxian District, Shanghai, was established in November 2003 through the merging of former Wubridge Town and former Zhuanghang Town (“abolishing two to establish one”). It is located due south of Shanghai, bordering Hangzhou Bay, and sits approximately 50 kilometers from the city center. The town covers a total area of 69.4 square kilometers, encompasses 31 administrative villages and 3 residential communities, and has a population of about 60,000. In 2004 and 2005, it was successively named a “Shanghai First-Class Sanitary Town” and a “Shanghai Civilized Town.”
