Monument to Martyr Zhao Tianpeng

The Monument to Martyr Zhao Tianpeng serves as a patriotic education base.

Martyr Zhao Tianpeng was born on December 11, 1903, into a feudal family in Zhonghenggang, Nihua, Nanhui. In October 1927, he officially joined the Communist Party of China and engaged in underground party work under the public identity of a teacher at Guantao Primary School in Lujiahui, Nanhui County. On June 16, 1928, Zhao Tianpeng executed the vicious local tyrant Zhang Peilin from Situan Town, who had oppressed the people and committed countless atrocities. After Zhang Peilin’s death, the enemy launched a countywide manhunt that very night. Comrade Tianpeng and his comrades retreated to Tairi. While taking a rest at a teahouse along the street, the enemy search squad entered the teahouse. To protect his comrades, Comrade Tianpeng stepped forward and was taken to prison by the enemy. In prison, he endured severe torture but consistently insisted that he alone was responsible for killing Zhang Peilin. On July 2, 1928, the 25-year-old Zhao Tianpeng sacrificed his precious life for the revolutionary cause under a ginkgo tree in Situan Town. After liberation, the People's Government of Situan Town erected a monument at the site of his execution in his memory. In 1964, the district government built a grand and solemn monument within Situan Middle School. In March 2001, the district government allocated substantial funds to erect a statue of Martyr Zhao Tianpeng at the original site. Today, within the newly renovated campus of Situan Middle School, the heroic figure stands tall, forever immortalized.
