Harbin Yushun Art Museum

The Yushun Art Museum is a contemporary art museum planned and built as a modern multifunctional facility. Located on Artists Street in the Limin Development Zone of Harbin, it was self-funded by the renowned painter Professor Lu Yushun. The main structure features a European castle-style design, utilizing skylights at the top for natural lighting.

With a total floor area of 6,000 square meters, the museum is divided into upper, middle, and lower levels, featuring three circular main exhibition halls equipped with tri-color anti-UV fluorescent lighting suitable for hanging large-scale artworks. The exhibition space spans 35,000 square meters with a display line of up to 700 meters, eight movable display walls, and the capacity to exhibit 1,000 paintings and 200 freestanding movable sculpture display cases simultaneously. Exhibition Halls No. 1 and No. 2 can also accommodate giant sculptures. The museum also houses dozens of facilities including a collection room, research room, art lecture hall, meeting rooms, restoration and authentication room, library and archives, painting studios, and offices. It fulfills six core functions: collection, research, exhibition, education, exchange, and service.

Since December 2005, the museum has hosted six international art exhibitions, inviting 145 foreign artists and showcasing over 1,000 foreign artworks. It has also organized five major domestic art exhibitions, featuring works by more than 600 domestic artists totaling over 3,000 pieces. Four solo exhibitions have been held here. Annually, the museum receives 450 international visitors, over 50 group tours, and over 20,000 domestic visitors. It has also hosted numerous visits from key provincial, municipal, and central government leaders.

The museum boasts a rich collection, housing over 1,500 pieces of modern and folk art, including categories such as Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, New Year paintings, comic strips, propaganda posters, cartoons, sketches, and illustrations. It includes masterpieces by many leading domestic artists, as well as outstanding works by historical masters. Examples include early works by the famed painter Lu Yanshao, calligraphy by Kang Youwei, and a collection of valuable Yuan Dynasty woodblock prints. The museum has published catalogs, illustrated volumes, and journals, and has organized specialized academic seminars.
