Former Residence Memorial of Lin Feng

The Former Residence Memorial of Lin Feng is a cultural tourism attraction, a classic red tourism site, and a patriotic education base.

The Former Residence Memorial of Lin Feng is located at No. 12 Wenming Road, southeast of Wangkui County, Heilongjiang Province. Originally built in 1918, it was later approved by the provincial Party committee and government in early 1994 to establish the Former Residence Memorial of Lin Feng on the original site.

The Former Residence Memorial of Lin Feng opened to the public on July 26, 1994. The Wangkui County Party Committee and County Government held a grand unveiling ceremony. Chen Weiren, Vice President of the Central Party School of the CPC Central Committee, and Sun Weiben, Director of the Provincial People’s Congress, unveiled the memorial. Leaders such as [committee head] and Vice Chairman Zhou Tienong inscribed messages for the opening. The message from the committee head read: “Loyal and dedicated, pragmatic, devoted to serving the people with utmost effort; upright, principled, with noble integrity that illuminate future generations.” Vice Chairman Zhou Tienong wrote: “Though the great man has passed, his legacy endures.”

The memorial now covers an area of 5,600 square meters, with a construction area of 935 square meters. It features a typical northeastern Chinese residential architectural style. The residence faces south and consists of seven rooms in the main building, five rooms each in the east and west wing rooms, and a grand entrance gate with traditional dougong (bracket sets) and upturned eaves, exuding a majestic presence. A pair of ink jade-carved lions stands on either side of the gate, further enhancing its solemnity. Inside the gatehouse are two wing rooms on each side, and an 18-meter-long screen wall lies between the main building and the gate. In front of the main building, between the east and west wing rooms, there are four flower stands—two large and two small—enclosed by spruce trees. The surrounding walls of the residence are lined with dozens of pine trees. In winter, the contrast of evergreen pines against white snow is especially breathtaking; in summer, blooming flowers, emerald pines, and willows create a picturesque scene that complements the simple and serene charm of the historic home.

The Former Residence Memorial of Lin Feng has five exhibition rooms: the Memorial Exhibition of Lin Feng’s Former Residence; the Cultural Relics Exhibition; the affiliated display “Affection Studio”; the Reading Room for Reference Materials; and the Exhibition on the Economic Development of Wangkui.

The memorial houses a total of 327 collections, including 3 first-class relics: the briefcase used by Lin Feng during his work in southwestern Shanxi; the bronze ink box used by Comrade Lin Feng during his time working in the northeast; and the certificate of election as a deputy to the First National People’s Congress in 1945. There are 138 third-class or above relics, over 200 pieces (volumes) of various materials, more than 400 pieces of high-quality crafts and calligraphy paintings, and over 4,000 precious books.

The Former Residence Memorial of Lin Feng has always upheld patriotism education as its mission and the promotion of socialist spiritual civilization as its responsibility. It earnestly implements the spirit of the “Outline for Implementing Patriotic Education,” fully leveraging the social educational function of the memorial and achieving significant social impact. The former residence has become an important “Patriotic Education Base” and “National Defense Education Base” in the province, as well as a national AA-level tourist attraction.

Lin Feng (September 30, 1906 – September 29, 1977), a native of Wangkui, Heilongjiang. His original name was Zheng Yongxiao, and he also used the names Zheng Boqiao (Boqiao, Boqiao), Zheng Lingfeng, Lin Shuoshi, and Luo Heng.

In March 1927, he joined the Communist Party of China in Tianjin through the introduction of Fan Wenlan. He had a university education. In 1924, he attended Nankai Middle School in Tianjin and participated in progressive activities. After 1927, he engaged in underground Party work in Beijing and Tianjin.
