Immortal Sage Delight Scenic Area

Immortal Sage Delight is the first peak of the front mountain. From a distance, its summit resembles an old man sitting upright, hence the name “Immortal Sage Peak.” Starting from Immortal Sage Peak, there are a series of attractions in sequence: Black Wind Gap, Sword Path, Reborn Tree, Rock-Breaking Pine, Guanyin Peak, Mountain God’s Throne, Buddha’s Palm Rock, Wild Wolf Valley, Heavenly Stele, Heavenly Channel, Fox Fairy Cave, Jade Brush Peak, and Worship Platform.

Black Wind Gap is a mountain pass between Immortal Sage Peak and Wild Wolf Valley, about 2 meters wide. This gap is swept by cold winds all year round—even in the height of summer, visitors feel a refreshing blast of cool air upon arrival, which is why it is called “Black Wind Gap.” Passing through Black Wind Gap and walking around to the back of Immortal Sage Peak, you’ll see a vertical rock fissure in the cliff face, about 1 meter wide, 5 meters deep, and roughly 30 meters high, as if cleaved by a sword—hence the name “Sword Path.” Visitors can climb up to the mountainside along this path from below the cliff.

Exiting Black Wind Gap and walking along the trail beneath the cliff for about 50 meters, you’ll find an oak tree as thick as a bowl. About 1 meter above the ground, it bends downward at a 75-degree angle, then at around 0.8 meters up, it’s pressed sideways by a rock and bends back upward at another 75-degree angle, growing straight up again. This is the “Reborn Tree.” Continuing past the Reborn Tree for about 30 meters, you’ll reach the “Rock-Breaking Pine.” This pine is quite unique—the roots grow embedded within the rocks, merging so seamlessly with them that root and stone appear indistinguishable. The tree could have grown unobstructed against the cliff face, but instead, its main root extends horizontally about 2 meters to the right, reaching beneath an overhanging rock. This protruding rock seems almost purpose-built to hinder the pine’s growth. After being blocked by the rock, the base of the tree curves back about half a meter and burrows into a crevice in the stone. Though the two surrounding rocks press tightly together, trying to prevent its growth, the pine struggles through the stone, bending slightly before breaking through and soaring toward the sky. The lower part of the trunk, over 2 meters long, is rooted and fused within the rock as if it had grown from it. The rock itself formed during the Hercynian movement, while the tree is only a few hundred years old—visitors can’t help but marvel at the sight.

Continuing on, you’ll come to the Mountain God’s Throne, Buddha’s Palm Rock, Wild Wolf Valley, Heavenly Stele, Heavenly Channel, and Fox Fairy Cave. If you climb down the Heavenly Channel to the base of the cliff and look ahead, you’ll see Guanyin Peak. There, Guanyin stands behind Immortal Sage, with a jade vase holding willow branches placed beside her, and two attendants standing side by side at her feet, as if listening to her teachings. Descending from the Heavenly Channel and walking about 100 meters further, you’ll reach the final attraction of the Immortal Sage Delight Scenic Area—the “Worship Platform.”

This “Worship Platform” lies at the end of a ridge extending from the spine of Forget-Worry Cliff. Standing at the base of the Worship Platform, you’ll be faced with a sheer cliff wall about 30 meters high and over 10 meters wide. About 2 meters above the ground, a red pine grows straight upward, clinging tightly to the stone face. To the left of the pine stands a cube-shaped rock about 3 meters tall. Some say the pine is the Mountain God’s writing brush, and the rock His seal; others claim the pine is a welcoming guest tree, while the rock is a mirror-like screen; yet more refer to it as the “Green Pine and Brocade Screen.” Beneath this cliff is a flat area of about a hundred square meters, as if specially cleared for those who come to worship in the mountains. Legend has it that the ancestors of the Manchu people, the Wanyan clan, came here to worship twice.
