Kai Shan River Waterfall is located 19 kilometers along the Wu Yong Trunk Road of the Wuyiling Forestry Bureau. It was artificially excavated in 1964. Though it may not possess the majestic grandeur of “waterfalls cascading three thousand feet, as if the Milky Way fell from the ninth heaven,” after heavy rains, the splashing waters and thunderous roar that can be heard for miles create an impressive and spectacular sight. The surrounding area features undulating mountains and the rustling of pine forests. It truly presents a picturesque scene of “tranquil mountains where the pine’s echo stretches far, and a thousand peaks compete in elegance.”

In 1985, the Changchun Film Studio came here to shoot scenes including Hong Kong beauty pageant contestants playing in the water. Shi Shengji, the then head of the Publicity Department of the Wuyiling District Committee who accompanied the filming, later wrote “Shooting Anecdotes,” which were published in media outlets such as the Yichun Radio and Television Newspaper. This piece was also included in the “Wuyiling Historical and Cultural Materials (Volume 13).”

Reporters from media outlets such as the Heilongjiang Daily, Heilongjiang Pictorial, and Heilongjiang Forestry News have all come here to photograph the waterfall. The images they captured have either been featured in national and provincial photography exhibitions or published in national and provincial journals.
