Wuyiling Yuantuan Bay Scenic Area

The Wuyiling Yuantuan Bay Scenic Area spans a planned area of 1,034 hectares, with 410 hectares of water surface. Approved as a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area in December 2010 and upgraded to an AA-level scenic area in October 2011, the site contains well-preserved, typical, and representative forested wetlands in northern China. The main types of wetlands include forested, shrub, grass, moss, floating mat swamp wetlands. It serves as a crucial water conservation area for the Heilongjiang and Songhua rivers, an important migratory route for waterfowl in Northeast Asia, and the source of the Tangwang River, the mother river of the Yichun forest region.

The scenic area boasts rich biodiversity, with 895 species of higher plants, including nine nationally protected species such as Amur cork tree, Korean pine, and Manchurian ash. It is home to 241 bird species, 51 mammal species, 39 fish species, 9 amphibian species, and 12 reptile species. Among these, 51 species are under national protection, including eight Class I protected animals—such as the scaly-sided merganser, red-crowned crane, and sable—and 43 Class II protected animals, including black bear, lynx, and Eurasian sparrowhawk.

The wild vegetation here is lush and green, with mosses and ferns spread across forest edges and valleys, stretching endlessly with vibrant life. Forests, shrubs, grasslands, mosses, floating mat swamp wetlands, along with rivers and lakes, form an exceptionally diverse composite forested wetland in China’s high-latitude northern region. They nurture many rare aquatic plants, such as bladderwort and floatingheart. Towering valuable trees like pine, oak, birch, and linden, intertwined with winding streams and gently swaying aquatic plants, create a beautiful natural painting set against the majestic and sprawling Xiao Xing’an Mountains.

The scenic area mainly offers waterway sightseeing. Take an eco-friendly cruise boat through the 4,600-meter waterway with 48 bends, watch fish playing in the water and waves rippling, listen to the murmuring streams and birds singing, and enjoy the natural ecosystem of the high-latitude, diverse, and composite wetlands in China’s northern region.
