Sanjiangkou is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a national wetland park.

Sanjiangkou is located on the west bank of the Liao River, forty-four li southeast of Liaoyuan County in Liaoning Province, and is traversed by the Sitao Railway. In the past, sailing boats gathered here in great numbers, traveling upstream to Liaoyuan and downstream to Tieling and Yingkou, making it an important market in the Manchuria-Mongolia region and one of the ports opened under the “Five Ports Treaty.” Now, through the ingenious development by the Tongjiang Municipal Government, it has become a uniquely scenic tourist destination.

Sanjiangkou is the confluence of the Songhua River and the Heilongjiang River, located about 4 kilometers northeast of Tongjiang City. After merging, the river is commonly known as the “Huntong River,” hence the name “Sanjiangkou.” The Heilongjiang River flows from west to east, with ink-green, calm, and expansive waters, while the Songhua River, carrying more silt, appears yellow. When the yellow Songhua River meets the black Heilongjiang River, the resulting waters surge powerfully with a striking color contrast, remaining unmixed for dozens of kilometers eastward. It is one of the famous natural wonders in Northeast China.
