The vast forests are the homeland of the Hezhe people. Hunting in the forest is the economic foundation for their survival and development. The forests nurtured the Hezhe people, and the Hezhe people are the masters of the forest. This sculpture is a vivid illustration of the development history of the Hezhe people, recreating their hunting culture and showing the close interdependent relationship between the Hezhe people and nature. It allows one to appreciate the industrious and brave spirit of the Hezhe people.

The black bear is fierce and immensely powerful, being one of the large predators in the northeastern forests. Hunting black bears is not only a challenge to the intelligence and bravery of the Hezhe people, but also to their very survival. This group sculpture depicts brave Hezhe hunters, with the help of their hunting dogs, using their wit and courage, wielding the primitive hunting tool “jida” to battle the ferocious black bear.

Dog sledding, called “tuorqi” in the Hezhe language, is an important means of communication and transport in winter. The sculpture shows a scene where, in the midst of howling northern winds and swirling snow, Hezhe hunters returning from the hunt ride a dog sled, loaded with game and brimming with the joy of harvest, speeding across the vast wilderness.

The swan is the mascot of the Hezhe people. A soaring swan symbolizes the thriving life of the Hezhe people. The pure white swan is also a symbol of love between young Hezhe men and women, expressing the Hezhe people’s loyalty to and longing for pure love.
