Rime Valley

“China’s Rime Valley” is located on the banks of the Mudan River in Lianhua Town, Linkou County. The Lianhua Hydropower Station is a peak-shaving power station. Due to intermittent power generation in winter, the Mudan River, which meanders through the valley downstream, does not freeze even during the coldest days of the year. Whenever electricity is generated, water is released from the reservoir, causing mist to rise over the river surface, creating a breathtaking rime spectacle that looks like something out of a fairy tale. When early winter sets in, the valley presents the wondrous scene described in the poetic line, “Suddenly, as if overnight, the spring wind comes, and thousands of pear trees blossom.” Along the riverbanks, roadsides, villages, islands, and hills — stretching across hundreds of square miles — everything is covered in glistening, jade-like branches in countless forms, resembling a mythical paradise. During this time, every spot — be it Rime Village, Rime Bay, Rime Island, Rime Ridge, Rime Boulevard, or Rime Corridor — becomes a winter fairy tale world. The variety and extent of the rime formations here are said to be the most impressive in the country. In recent years, the county government has accelerated the development of rime landscape attractions, proposing to create a sister attraction to China’s Snow Town — “China’s Rime Valley.”

Dubbed the “Spring in Winter” and honored as the “Shangri-La of Winter,” entering Rime Valley when the rest of the northern lands are barren and frozen is like stepping into a dreamlike world.
