Huma Xiaohei Lazi Mountain Scenic Area

Xiaohei Lazi Mountain is an important attraction at the Huma River estuary. It's not only known for its stunning scenery but also, more famously, for the renowned Humaer Battle Monument located near the cliff at the top of the mountain. On the southern side of Xiaohei Lazi Mountain, there’s a mountain path that leads directly to the summit. If you have a spirit of adventure and courage, you can also climb up from the riverbank on the northwest slope of Xiaohei Lazi.

Not far from the cliff at the top of Xiaohei Lazi Mountain stands the famous Humaer Battle Monument. This monument has a very unique shape and profound symbolism—it is modeled after the ancient weapon “crossbow.” It features a pedestal over half a meter high with steps on all four sides, while the main body of the monument on the base is a rectangular prism. One side of the top of the prism is cut off at two corners, transforming the main body into a crossbow quiver, atop which a single arrowhead is exposed. The entire monument resembles a drawn crossbow ready to fire. On the front of the monument, the black characters reading “Humaer Battle Monument” are inscribed by Chen Lei, a veteran of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army and former Governor of Heilongjiang Province. Above these black characters, a pattern resembling an ancient cannon is formed using black materials. The overall appearance of the monument is simple yet solemn and dignified.

The Guest-Greeting Pine is a Korean pine growing at the top of Xiaohei Lazi Mountain, right next to the cliff. Even from a distance away from the mountain, one can see its solitary and proud figure standing at the edge of the cliff. Though not as ancient or robust as the Guest-Greeting Pine of Huangshan, it appears even more upright and graceful. Just as the Korean pine is praised as the “beauty pine,” the Guest-Greeting Pine of Xiaohei Lazi resembles a graceful maiden standing on the cliff, gazing toward the return of loved ones. The Guest-Greeting Pine is also not far from the Humaer Battle Monument.

The Fox Fairy Cave is located halfway up the western slope of Xiaohei Lazi, about ten meters above the riverbank. It is a natural cave formed through long-term weathering of the mountain. It is a small space, with soil and rubble fallen from erosion covering the walls, making it look like an extremely ordinary cave with no signs of artificial carving. But this also adds to its mystique, as locals believe it is the dwelling place of the fox fairy. For people in the north, there has been a tradition since ancient times of worshiping the fox fairy. In their eyes, the fox fairy is a deity capable of resolving difficulties and bringing salvation. People might pray to the fox fairy for medical cures or seek safety and peace.
