It is said that the most treacherous section of the Heilongjiang River is Yingmen Lazi, but the most beautiful is Huashan. Huashan — a beautiful name for a mountain, as beautiful in name as it is in reality. Huashan is a leisure and holiday resort area full of endless charm along the Heilongjiang River.

The Huashan Scenic Area is located near Wanghada Village, Jinshan Township, Huma County. The scenic area features one mountain and one island along the Heilongjiang River. The mountain is Huashan, which stands 307 meters tall. Its riverside cliffs form a semi-circle, with exposed rocks and steep, upright slopes that stand like they were cut by knives, facing the river. Across the river is a mountain on the Russian side. Legend has it that the two mountains were once one, perhaps separated by some great tectonic movement, and now belong to China and Russia respectively.

The island is a peninsula covering 100 hectares, densely covered with lush vegetation, brimming with vitality like bamboo shoots after rain, adding endless charm to the scenic area. There are also two gullies and several ponds on the island. When the water level of the Heilongjiang River is high, it connects to the river, allowing fish to swim directly in, making it a great spot for fishing. To the southeast of the island lies a calm section of the Heilongjiang River, along with a two-kilometer stretch of shallow sandy beach, forming a natural swimming area where those who enjoy swimming can have a great time. On the eastern side of the island is a mixed woodland, where visitors can pick and taste delicious wild fruits such as mountain ash and bird cherries. Among the woods and grasses, there are also various wild delicacies like grass mushrooms and willow mushrooms. The peninsula is rich and colorful — if you’re good at exploring, you’re sure to be pleasantly surprised.

The beauty of Huashan is breathtaking: standing facing the river, it resembles either a heroic soldier guarding the nation’s borders or a solemn national gateway, showcasing the heroic spirit of the Chinese people. The exposed rocks on the mountain are colorful. In summer, flocks of rock swallows that make their homes in caves circle the mountainside. At times they dart bravely toward the river like sprites, at times stroll through the hills like couples, at times patrol the border like valiant soldiers, and at times play and laugh like mischievous children. From a distance, the beautiful Huashan looks like a huge oil painting hanging by the Heilongjiang River, hence the name “Huashan” — or “Painted Mountain.” This “painting” is extravagant and splendid, grand and majestic, exuding the heroic aspirations of the Chinese nation.

Transportation by Bus/Boat: Take a boat from Huma to Wanghada Village, Jinshan Township — the water distance is 30 kilometers. Alternatively, take a bus to Wanghada Village, Jinshan Township — the land distance is 46 kilometers.

Self-Driving Route: Starting from Huma County, enter S209 and drive 39.7 kilometers along S209. After passing the building of Sanjian Village about 160 meters to the right, turn right onto Sanxin Line and drive 6.7 kilometers to reach the destination.
