The ancient city is situated on the Back Hill of Xin’an Village, Gushanzi Town, 22 kilometers east of Liuhe County. It is commonly known as "Goryeo City." Its geographic coordinates are 126°00′ east longitude, about 1.5 kilometers east of Gushanzi Town and 250 meters south of Xin’an Village. The city lies against undulating hills to the north, with Banjie Mountain to the west, and opens onto the alluvial plains of the Santong River basin to the east and south. The site has a rectangular layout, oriented approximately 15 degrees southeast. The perimeter is 455 meters, with the southern and northern walls each 125 meters long, the eastern wall 105 meters, and the western wall 100 meters. The terrain within the city slopes from west to east, consisting of a slope cultivated over many years. Based on the form of the ancient city, its wall construction methods, and artifacts unearthed inside, it is believed to date back to the Liao and Jin Dynasties. Below the Liao-Jin cultural layer, there may be remains from the Han Dynasty or even earlier primitive cultures. The area of Xin’an Ancient City is small, with simple wall construction, making it unsuitable for large populations. Its situation is similar to that of Xiaochengzi in Meihekou City, possibly serving as a military-defensive settlement with garrison functions during the Liao and Jin periods.
