Gushanzi Town Martyrs' Cemetery

Gushanzi Town Martyrs' Cemetery is located on Beishan Mountain in Gushanzi Town, Liuhe County, Jilin Province, approximately 300 meters from the town’s rural road. The cemetery is built against the mountain, overlooking Gushanzi Town. The site covers an area of 4,000 square meters, with a protected area of the same size.

The martyrs’ tombs consist of two gate pillars, a memorial monument, and the burial sites, surrounded by hundreds of pine and cypress trees within the cemetery. The gate pillars are inscribed with “Great in Life, Glorious in Death.” An arched steel frame connects the gate pillars, bearing the large characters “Martyrs’ Cemetery.” Twenty meters behind the stone gate stands the Revolutionary Martyrs’ Monument, erected in June 1971. It features inscriptions on all four sides: the front reads “Revolutionary Martyrs’ Monument,” the back “A Single Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire,” the left side “To Die for the People, Though Dead, Is Glory,” and the right side “The People’s Heroes Shall Live Forever.” Over 200 unnamed heroes who sacrificed their lives in the War of Resistance Against Japan and the Liberation War are buried in the cemetery. Local residents pay their respects at the martyrs’ tombs every Tomb-Sweeping Day.

It lies at 126° east longitude and 42°12′ north latitude, in the central section of the Longgang Mountain range, which is part of the Changbai Mountain foothills.
