Site of Li Renren’s Sacrifice

The site of Li Renren’s sacrifice is located in Anrentun, Sanyuanpu Town, Liuhe County, Jilin Province.

Li Renren, male, Han ethnicity, was born on September 16, 1924, into a farming family in Anqiu County, Shandong Province. At the age of 15, Li Renren was forcibly conscripted by the Nationalist army to serve as an orderly. On November 12, 1943, during the Battle of Mawo, the Nationalist unit Li Renren belonged to was defeated by our army, and he joined the Eighth Route Army. He was assigned to the 7th Squad, 3rd Platoon, 1st Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Regiment of the Luxi Military District, serving as a soldier. In October 1944, he was honorably admitted to the Communist Party of China.

In the spring of 1945, during the battle to liberate Mengyang County, Li Renren was recognized as a First-Class Combat Model and promoted to deputy squad leader of the 8th Squad. In the summer of the same year, during the battle to liberate Jingzhi Town, Li Renren single-handedly captured seven prisoners and was awarded the title of “Combat Model,” subsequently being promoted to squad leader of the 8th Squad. In September of the same year, during the battle to attack the Dapengkou Station on the Pujin Railway, Li Renren was hailed as a “Lone-Wolf Hero” by the Luxi Military District. During the defense of Siping Campaign, Li Renren was upheld as the “Fighting Banner of the Entire Column” and was awarded a “Hero Medal.” In the battle at Xifeng, Li Renren was credited with a major achievement and commended in a notification by his division.

On February 22, 1947, during the battles of Dexingtun and Dabeicha in the Third Defense of Linjiang Campaign, Li Renren led the charge, guiding soldiers up the mountain to storm enemy positions. He forcefully seized Jiuyiwu Highland (the northern hill of Dabeicha), and then attacked the enemy below the hill. Advancing, he was unfortunately shot and seriously wounded. While being transported to the rear hospital, he died a heroic death in Daoniugou Tun at the age of 24.

To commemorate Li Renren, the division headquarters and political department named the 2nd Platoon under his command the “Anren Platoon.” The democratic government of Liuhe County renamed the northern hill of Dabeicha as “Anren Mountain,” renamed Daoniugou Tun as “Anrentun,” and laid the hero’s remains to rest in the Linjiang Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery.
