The Triangle Dragon Bay Nature Reserve was rated as a national forest park by the State Forestry Administration in 1992. The park features ten major scenic areas: Triangle Dragon Bay, Big Dragon Bay, Second Dragon Bay, Small Dragon Bay, East Dragon Bay, South Dragon Bay, Dry Dragon Bay, Diaoshuihu (Waterfall), Golden Dragon Peak, and Square Peak, collectively known as the “Seven Bays, One Lake, and Two Peaks,” and includes over a hundred scenic spots. The Triangle Dragon Bay Nature Reserve is located in the southeastern part of Huinan County, Jilin Province, within the Longgang Mountain Range of the Changbai Mountain system. The reserve contains six volcanic crater lakes with an average depth of about 50 meters, and the deepest reaching 100 meters. It ranks first in China in terms of the number of lakes, their concentrated distribution, diverse forms, and well-preserved state. Introduction

Triangle Dragon Bay National Nature Reserve is a protected area of the natural ecosystem type, focusing on the conservation of wetland ecosystems, biological species, and the local unique ecological environment formed on the basis of volcanic landforms.

Here you can find pristine volcanic landform scenery and uniquely formed wetlands resulting from volcanic eruptions, showcasing the complete process of crater lakes evolving into wetlands — a rare sight in the world and the largest group of volcanic crater lakes in China.

The Dragon Bays are high mountain lakes formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. Their azure waters resemble jade, and each bay has distinct shapes and landscapes, scattered like pearls across the lofty mountains and ridges. Among them, Triangle Dragon Bay is the most majestic and beautiful of the seven bays in the Dragon Bay Group National Forest Park. It resulted from two successive volcanic eruptions and features a unique central island on the south side of the bay, which is what makes Triangle Dragon Bay so distinctive.

Due to erosion by volcanic lava, the shores of Triangle Dragon Bay are winding and varied, with a wide and serene lake surface. The scenery is fresh and pleasant. Diaoshuihu Waterfall is about 10 meters wide and 6 meters high, with a section where water sprays down from the cliff like a fountain gushing from a teapot spout — hence locals also call it “Diaoshuihu” (Hanging Kettle). The Diaoshuihu scenery is spectacular and beautiful, with crystal-clear water where fish can be seen swimming. In winter, the water does not freeze, while in summer, it is ice-cold with mist lingering all around, refreshing and invigorating — making it an ideal destination for travel and summer retreat. Transportation

The Triangle Dragon Bay Nature Reserve is located 45 kilometers southeast of Chaoyang Town, Huinan County. You can take a tourist shuttle bus from Huinan Station, with a journey of about 40 minutes.
