The ancient city is surrounded by the Huihua River on its southern, northern, and western sides, with mountains serving as a natural barrier, and is divided into an inner, middle, and outer city. Being there allows you to fully enjoy the boundless scenery where natural and cultural landscapes blend seamlessly. Introduction

Introduction

Huihua Ancient City is located on Huihua Mountain, 17 kilometers northeast of Huinan County (Chaoyang Town), and was the site of the Huihua tribe of the Hulun Jurchens during the Ming Dynasty. The Huihua tribe originally belonged to the Nima family of the Saha Lian Wula River. Its founding ancestor was Xingguli, and it was passed down to Wangjinu, who “built a city to live in” on the Hurqi Mountain by the Huihua River—that is, the Huihua Ancient City we see today. The city was located at a strategic land and water transportation hub, with lush water and grass, and abundant resources. In September of the 35th year of the Wanli era (1607), it was captured by Nurhaci, and remains a precious historical relic left by the Jurchens in China.

In recent years, a large number of precious cultural relics have been unearthed from the ancient city, mainly including:

Polished stone axes, grooved stone picks, stone hoes, pottery and stone net sinkers, as well as coarse red-brown pottery shards.

Ceramics such as green-glazed bottles, black-glazed bottles, blue-and-white jars, famille-rose tri-colored bottles, and Ming Wanli official kiln five-character longevity-patterned plates, as well as doucai floral bowls.

Metals such as copper stirrups, iron stirrups, iron pots, arrowheads, iron knives, iron forks, helmets, gold earrings, gold hat finials, and silver snake-shaped ornaments.

Most of the porcelain items were produced in Jingdezhen during the Ming Dynasty, with fine clay texture and lustrous glaze color, indicating that the Huihua tribe had very close economic ties with the Central Plains region at the time.

Most iron items were weapons, especially arrowheads, which were found in nearly every period, with diverse shapes including diamond, spade, willow leaf, fan, and fish tail shapes.

From these precious historical relics, we can see that Huihua City indeed endured countless battles. As an important ancient city site of the Ming Dynasty Jurchens, Huihua City is listed among the first batch of key cultural relics protection units in Jilin Province and has become a famous tourist attraction, attracting large numbers of visitors each year who come to trace the footsteps of their ancestors and reflect on the past.
