Huinan County Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery

Huinan County Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery serves as a patriotic education base.

Huinan County Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is located on a hill about one kilometer northeast of Chaoyang Town, Huinan County, covering an area of 40,500 square meters. In the center of the cemetery stands a Revolutionary Martyrs Monument, inscribed with eight gilded characters reading “Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs.” To the north of the monument is the Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall.

The memorial hall is divided into east and west exhibition areas. The eastern exhibition hall displays the stories of martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the War of Resistance against Japan. Notable among them is Jin Boyang, a renowned leader of the labor movement in the Northeast and a member of the Standing Committee of the Manchuria Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. He was only 26 years old when he died heroically in battle against puppet troops under Shao Benliang at Hanlongwan, Jinchuan County (now part of Jinchuan Town, Huinan County) on November 15, 1933. Another is Cao Yafan, who served as Secretary of the Helong County Committee of the Communist Party of China, Secretary of the East Manchuria Special Committee, Political Commissar of the 2nd Regiment of the 2nd Division of the Northeast People's Revolutionary Army, Political Commissar of the 3rd Division of the 2nd Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, Commander of the 2nd Division of the 1st Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, and Commander of the 1st Column of the 1st Route Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army. He died in the line of duty on April 8, 1940, near Tanjiafangchang (now part of Jinchuan Town, Huinan County) in Xiaojinchuan Village, Jinchuan County. The western exhibition hall showcases martyrs who lost their lives during the Liberation War and the periods of socialist revolution and construction. Among them is Zhang Yiqing, who once served as Captain and Commander of the People’s Armed Self-Defense Corps of Jiexiu County, Shanxi Province, Political Commissar and Acting Commander of the Huoxian County Guerrilla Unit, Instructor of the Guard Battalion of the Western Shanxi District, Deputy Head of the Organization Department of the Second Column, Deputy Secretary of the Huinan County Committee of Jilin Province (acting as head) and Political Commissar of the County Militia, and President of the Huinan County Consultative Conference. He was martyred on May 27, 1946, while traveling to attend the Northeast People’s Representative Conference, when he was surrounded by a group of political bandits near Shangmadaogou (now part of Guanma Township) in Panshi County and died heroically while breaking through the encirclement. At the northern end of the hall are the tombstones of 39 martyrs.

Huinan County Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a county-level base for party history and patriotic education. In May 2011, it was designated as a patriotic education base among the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units by the Jilin Provincial Party Committee and Government. The county’s civil affairs department allocates special funds annually for the maintenance and renovation of the cemetery, and has assigned dedicated staff for daily management.
