The Jiapigou Town is rich in mineral resources and has a well-developed gold mining industry. Its gold is renowned both domestically and internationally, earning the reputation of being the “Golden Land at the Foot of the Changbai Mountains.”

The “Century-old Mine Shaft” in Jiapigou Town dates back to the 19th century, during the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty. By that time, the town’s gold panning and mining industries were already taking shape. The legendary “Gold King” – Han Bianwai – started his business here, and there was a saying that he could extract “a bushel of gold a day.” There are over 70 remnants of Han family mine shafts, varying in depth from just over 200 meters to the deepest at

080 meters; after the liberation, the Jiapigou mines returned to the people, and gold mining became more standardized. Over 60 new mine shafts were excavated, gradually increasing gold production, with an annual average of 2

400 kilograms of gold mined.

In 2003, tourism projects such as the Century-old Mine Shaft Viewing Platform, kilometer-long mine tunnel, hands-on ore selection by visitors, ore smelting for gold, gold purification, gold bar production, gold jewelry crafting, and the Northeast Gold Market Street were included in the development plan.

Jiapigou Town: Covering a total area of 1,179 square kilometers, Jiapigou Town has 2,260 hectares of arable land and 106,215 hectares of forestland, including 102,753 hectares of state-owned forests and 1,202 hectares of collectively owned forests, resulting in a forest coverage rate of 90%. The town consists of 9 villages and 48 hamlets, with a total of 8,113 households, including 5,133 industrial households and 2,980 agricultural households. The population is 22,685, comprising 12,831 urban residents and 9,854 rural residents, with a total labor force of 5,647.
