Purple Cloud Pavilion

Purple Cloud Pavilion is a Qing-style replica building, covering a land area of 256 square meters with a floor space of 656 square meters and a height of 26 meters. Its main structure consists of five levels — a basement and four floors, topped by a half-level spire.

Historically, Purple Cloud Pavilion was called Wangjiang Shrine, a “river god temple” entirely made of wooden planks. It was first built in 1894 by the local loggers in the mountains to commemorate Xie Hongde, the leader of the log rafting teams, and was dedicated to him as the “ancestor of log rafting” and the “protector god” of those who worked on the rafts. It also served as an inn that combined lodging, dining, resting, and goods transfer functions.

The reconstruction of Purple Cloud Pavilion was completed in September 2008 and has since become an iconic landmark of the Baishan Lake Scenic Area. Visitors who climb to the top of Purple Cloud Pavilion can enjoy the beautiful scenery where the lake and mountains reflect each other. It is also a great spot to watch the sunrise and a favorite place for photographers.
