The Jiapigou Gold Mine is a cultural heritage site protected by Jilin Province.

The Jiapigou Gold Mine is located beneath the Jin Yin Bi Ling ridge at the northwestern foot of the Changbai Mountains, 86 kilometers southeast of Huadian City, Jilin Province. The entire mining area is long and narrow from east to west, and narrow from north to south, with terrain that is higher in the east and lower in the west, and higher in the north and lower in the south. The mining area spans 800 square kilometers. In the Jiapigou region, there are over 300 mines of various sizes from different periods, including 85 from the Qing Dynasty. The Jiapigou Gold Mine is a representative modern industrial heritage of the Northeast region, with a history continuing from the late Qing Dynasty to the present.

The history of the Jiapigou Gold Mine dates back to 1820. Over the nearly 200 years since its establishment, the mine has witnessed the Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, the Japanese occupation of the Northeast, and the People’s Republic era. Its mining methods have also evolved through phases including individual mining, collective mining, and industrial mining. During the People’s Republic period, the Jiapigou Gold Mine developed pits such as Dongshanqing, Lishan Line, Xiaxitai, Erdaogou, and Hongqi Pit. It has extracted a total of over 70 tons of gold, becoming a large-scale gold mining base with distinctive regional characteristics for the nation.

As a typical representative of China’s modern national industry, the Jiapigou Gold Mine was once the country’s largest mine, renowned both domestically and internationally for its high-quality gold production. It is known as the cradle of China’s non-ferrous metal industry and China’s No. 1 gold mine.

Jiapigou Town: Jiapigou Town covers an area of 1,179 square kilometers, with 2,260 hectares of arable land and 106,215 hectares of forestland — including 102,753 hectares of state-owned forest and 1,202 hectares of collective forest — resulting in a forest coverage rate of 90%. The town has 9 villages and 48 hamlets, with a total of 8,113 households, including 5,133 industrial households and 2,980 agricultural households. The total population is 22,685, comprising 12,831 urban residents and 9,854 rural residents, with 5,647 laborers.
