Balawendu Apricot Grove is located in Balawendu Township, about 90 kilometers southwest of the county seat, bordering Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. As early as 1986, the Balawendu Apricot Grove was listed by the People’s Government of Jilin Province as one of the province's twenty-seven tourist attractions. The sixth volume of the book "Talking About Jilin", published by the People’s Daily Press, has already introduced the Balawendu Apricot Grove to people across the country. In 2002, it was designated as a provincial-level nature reserve by the People’s Government of Jilin Province. Over one million wild apricot trees cover an area of 24,435 mu, growing on the undulating sand dunes stretching from east to west. In mid-spring, the apricot blossoms bloom in competition; in early summer, green apricots hang from the branches; when autumn frost arrives, the apricot leaves turn fiery red; in winter, the bare tree trunks reveal their shiny purple bodies, turning the area into a "purple hill" (which means Balawendu in Mongolian). The roots of the wild apricot trees are premium materials for root carvings, and the apricot kernels can be processed into canned apricots, apricot oil, dried apricots, beauty creams, and more, offering great development potential.
