The sand dune where the Xituozi Site at Sanhetun is located runs from east to west. It is approximately 2,000 meters long from east to west, 1,000 meters wide from north to south, and about 8 meters above the ground. The entire dune is covered with wind-eroded sand pits of various sizes and depths. Within these pits, numerous pottery and porcelain fragments, ironware, and other relics have been exposed. There is also a country road running in an east-west and north-south direction across the site, with the surface revealing neatly arranged fired earth and plant ash remains, suggesting that this may have been a military encampment at the time. These are relics from the Liao Dynasty.

Xinglongshan Town is located in the western part of Tongyu County, 65 kilometers from the county seat. It borders Tongfa Pasture to the west, connects to the national-level nature reserve Xianghai to the north, neighbors Tuanjie Township to the south, and adjoins Wulanhua Town to the east. It is a relatively large town in western Jilin Province. The total area of the town is 66,000 hectares, including 17,000 hectares of arable land, 19,000 hectares of grassland, 21,000 hectares of forested land, and 9,000 hectares of other types of land.
