Shuangliao White Crane Provincial Nature Reserve

Shuangliao White Crane Provincial Nature Reserve is situated in Maolin Town, with a total protected area of 6,603 hectares. The reserve mainly safeguards rare and endangered waterbirds including the white crane, oriental white stork, red-crowned crane, and black stork, along with the wetland ecosystem. It functions as a critical stopover point for white cranes migrating between the northern and southern hemispheres globally, hosting 200–500 resting white cranes each migration season. This makes it of significant value and importance to the conservation of the white crane species both within China and worldwide. Recently, the area has been officially designated as a provincial-level White Crane Nature Reserve by the People's Government of Jilin Province. This marks a new historical stage in the development of the Shuangliao White Crane Nature Reserve.

Maolin Town: I. Natural Conditions

Maolin Town is located in the northwest of Shuangliao City, at the junction of two provinces and three counties. The town has well-developed transportation, with both railway and highway access. There are 27 administrative villages, 88 natural hamlets, 168 administrative hamlets, one subdistrict office, and four residents' committees. The total number of households is 11,951, of which 9,885 are agricultural households. The total population is 42,733, including 35,252 agricultural residents. The total area of the town spans 468 square kilometers.
