Baishilazi Nature Reserve

Located in Kuandian County, Liaoning Province, 30 kilometers north of Kuandian County town, the reserve covers an area of 7,405 hectares. Approved by the Liaoning Provincial Government in 1981, it was upgraded to a national-level wildlife nature reserve by the State Council in 1988. It was formerly a state-owned experimental forest farm under the Ministry of Forestry.

The Baishilazi Nature Reserve is part of the Qianshan Mountain Range, an extension of the Changbai Mountain Range. Centered around the main peak Sifangdingzi, it extends in all directions. There are 18 peaks over 800 meters and 8 peaks over 1,000 meters within the reserve, with the highest peak, Sifangdingzi, reaching 1,270.5 meters. The lowest elevation is 400 meters. There are 11 major valleys, with cliffs and precipices as deep as 200 to 600 meters. The main peak rises prominently to the southeast, and on its western side, there is a fountain that sprays several feet high, forming a majestic mountain waterfall. The landscape here is truly spectacular, with uniquely shaped peaks and rocks crafted by nature. On the northern side of Tiantai Mountain, there are two temple ruins and one cemetery site. The stone inscriptions on the temples read: “Pine and bamboo are elegant and ancient, mountains and waters are serene and leisurely,” with the horizontal plaque reading “Three Yuan in One.” The cemetery belongs to the Penglai Sect. The “Stone House” in Heigou was once a campsite where the anti-Japanese hero Yang Jingyu and his troops stayed during their resistance efforts. The Xitianmen Forest Fire Watchtower offers a panoramic view of the overlapping mountain ranges.

The reserve boasts a favorable ecological environment that protects the survival and reproduction of wildlife. It is home to rare plants and forest animals under national key protection, including 100 genera, 433 families, 986 species, and 42 varieties of higher plants, as well as over 180 species of vertebrates and more than 1,000 species of insects. Not only does it feature beautiful natural scenery and pleasant landscapes, but its inherent ecological environment also holds significant scientific research value, offering visitors incredibly stunning natural views.
