Dandong Egret Nature Reserve

Introduction: The Hongtonggou Egret Nature Reserve is situated in the southern part of Kuandian, with geographical coordinates between 124°20′ and 125°43′ east longitude and 41°10′ north latitude. It spans an area of 3,360.4 hectares, of which 1,089.4 hectares are forested and 2,271 hectares are water areas. The air quality complies with national standards. Plant resources include 146 species of lichen plants from 16 families and 2 orders; seed plants comprise 848 species from 386 genera and 91 families across 2 phyla; and there are 46 species of phytoplankton from 5 phyla. Animal resources consist of 126 bird species from 33 families and 13 orders; 9 amphibian species from 5 families and 2 orders; and 13 fish species from 6 families and 4 orders, among others.

In February 2000, it was approved as a county-level nature reserve by the county government, and in January 2002, it was promoted to a municipal-level nature reserve by the municipal government.
