Dandong Taipingwan Power Plant

Introduction The Taipingwan Power Plant was established in 1979 and has a history of 18 years. It is one of the large and medium-sized hydroelectric power plants jointly built by China and North Korea. The plant is located in Taipingwan Town, Dandong City, Liaoning Province, on the lower reaches of the Yalu River at China’s border, facing Fangshanli in Shuozhou County, North Pyongan Province, North Korea. The dam site is 40 kilometers downstream from Dandong City and Sinuiju City, and about 30 kilometers upstream from the Shuifeng Power Plant and the Changdian Power Station.

The Taipingwan Power Plant is a national “large-second” category enterprise, managing the operations of both the Taipingwan Power Station (hereinafter referred to as “Ta Station”) and the Changdian Power Station (hereinafter referred to as “Chang Station”), operating under a “one plant, two stations” management model. The two stations have a total of six hydroelectric generating units installed, with a combined installed capacity of 340,000 kilowatts and an average annual power generation of 1 billion kilowatt-hours.
