Dandong Tianqiaogou National Forest Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a national forest park.

Introduction: Tianqiaogou National Forest Park is located on the northwestern edge of Kuandian County, bordering Benxi County and Huanren County. It is 65 kilometers from the county seat of Kuandian and 157 kilometers from downtown Dandong. The forested area spans 40 square kilometers, while the forest park itself covers 10 square kilometers.

The area boasts beautiful mountains, numerous uniquely shaped rocks, towering ancient trees, and murmuring streams. The grandeur of Mount Tai, the elegance of Huangshan, and the mystery of Zhangjiajie—all can be found in miniature here. The scenery is characterized by its “oddity, uniqueness, majesty, and ruggedness,” earning it the reputation of being the “Little Lushan Mountain” beyond the Shanhai Pass.

This was once the battleground of the famous anti-Japanese hero General Yang Jingyu. He used Tianqiaogou as his base to establish the first red revolutionary government in Northeast China—the Siping Township People’s Government. After years of development, Tianqiaogou National Forest Park has taken shape and now has four scenic areas open to the public: 1. Mountain Moonrise Scenic Area, 2. Four Pillars of Heaven Scenic Area, 3. Park Gate Scenic Area, and 4. Dahei Gully Scenic Area.

It is also a natural botanical and zoological garden, home to over 50 families and more than 170 species of woody plants, and 987 species of herbaceous plants. Wildlife includes over ten species such as black bears, wild boars, and otters, as well as dozens of bird species like mandarin ducks. The area also boasts abundant forest frog resources and China’s rare alpine cold-water fish—the lenok. This mysterious forest attracts numerous visitors every year. Calligraphers, painters, and photographers come here to create art inspired by the stunning natural landscapes and capture the diverse seasonal scenery. Central government leaders, former Minister Luo Yuchuan of the National Forestry Department, and renowned Chinese forestry scientist Professor Wang Zhan have all visited for inspection. Mr. Ho Kah Leong, Senior Parliamentary Secretary of Singapore’s Ministry of the Environment, led a tourism delegation here and inscribed the name “Tianqiao Peak.” The Japan Angling Association has fished and toured here, and guests from Taiwan have also visited. The park receives over 10,000 domestic and international visitors annually.
