Dandong Hekou Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Dandong Hekou Scenic Area, a national AAAA-level key scenic spot, is among the most picturesque sections of the Yalu River. As one of China’s rare primitive ecological tourism zones, it features verdant peaks on either bank and nine islands with eighteen tranquil bends. The sweeping river, framed by ethnic customs that are rustic and charming, draws tourists from home and abroad who linger, reluctant to leave.

Longquan Mountain Villa — the hometown of the beloved TV series *Liu Laogen*, where Zhao Benshan showcased the beautiful natural landscape and rich rural culture to audiences.

Hekou Broken Bridge — one of the three major crossing sites used by the Volunteer Army during the Korean War. It bears witness to the heroic deeds of commanders such as Peng Dehuai and Mao Anying, making it an important site on the red tourism route.

Changhe Island Korean Ethnic Folk Village — resembling a beautiful landscape painting, it is a radiant jewel nestled in the rippling waters of the Yalu River, offering visitors an up-close experience of the neighboring country’s ethnic culture and exotic charm.

The renowned Chinese military writer Mr. Wu Dawei was deeply inspired by the peach blossoms blanketing the hillsides during his visit to Hekou. He penned the song *In That Place Where the Peach Blossoms Bloom*, which became widely popular across China after being performed by artist Jiang Dawei.

The local river fish in Hekou Scenic Area — including carp, flower carp, flower crucian carp, and thrushmouth culter — are large and delicious. Stewing these fish in a big pot of river water is a signature local dish. In addition, seasonal wild vegetables, salted duck eggs from the riverside, and local specialties such as pine mushroom, hazel mushroom, and soft jujube make perfect gifts for friends and family.

China and North Korea are separated only by a narrow strip of water, with sounds of chickens and dogs audible from each shore. Land birds chirp cheerfully, while fishing boats dot the river. Dawn’s rosy hues bathe the misty Yalu River in ethereal beauty; sunset’s fiery glow adds charm to fishing boats returning at dusk.
