Cabbage Field Border Wall

The Cabbage Field Border Wall is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level of Liaoning Province.

The Cabbage Field Border Wall is located in Laohuangqian Gully, Group 3, Yanjiang Village, Daxicha Town. It is the best-preserved section of the Liaodong Border Wall within Kuandian County. Laohuangqian Gully generally runs from northwest to southeast, while the border wall extends roughly from north to south, cutting across the valley. Divided by the road that leads in and out of the gully, the wall is split into northern and southern sections. The northern section starts on the eastern hillside and extends north to south up to a ridge, with a remaining length of about 150 meters. The southern section begins at the riverside at the foot of the western hill and extends southward up the slope, with a remaining length of about 30 meters. The base of the wall is 10–12 meters wide, narrowing to 4–8 meters at the top, and stands 2–4 meters high. It is constructed from manually hewn stone blocks. The Cabbage Field Border Wall was built as a horse-blocking barrier after the expansion of the Six Forts in the early Wanli era, serving to defend against the Jianzhou Jurchens and stabilize the situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the Yalu River basin. It is part of the defensive facilities of the “Six Forts of Kuandian” and holds significant value for the study of frontier conflict history in the late Ming Dynasty. On March 15, 1982, it was designated as a county-level cultural heritage site by the People’s Government of Kuandian County. On November 5, 2010, it was listed as a municipal-level cultural heritage site by the People’s Government of Dandong City. On October 17, 2014, it was declared a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the People’s Government of Liaoning Province.
