Itineraries 2026-10-03 1 views 7 days
Experience both walking safaris and waterfall adventures: explore the untamed wilderness of South Luangwa in the east and the adventure hub of Livingstone in the southwest, covering the best of Zambia in one trip.

Itinerary Overview

Day 1: Lusaka → Days 2–4: South Luangwa National Park → Day 5: Fly to Livingstone → Day 6: Victoria Falls → Day 7: Departure. Choose Proflight’s small aircraft between Lusaka and the Mfuwe Airport (approx. 1.5 hours). Self-driving is possible in the dry season but takes over 9 hours.

Day 1: Lusaka

Arrive at KKIA via connections in Nairobi, Addis Ababa, or Dar es Salaam. Check into a city hotel. In the afternoon, visit East Park or Arcades malls for currency exchange and shopping. Enjoy your first nyama choma (grilled meat) dinner at a local eatery and get an early night.

Days 2–4: South Luangwa: Base for Walking Safaris

  • Day 2: Arrive by small aircraft at Mfuwe Airport, then transfer to camp. In the afternoon, go on your first game drive, featuring elephants and buffalo herds along the Luangwa River.
  • Day 3: Early morning walking safari — led by an armed guide and an ecological guide, venture on foot into the bush to learn how to identify tracks, droppings, and alarm calls, and get up close to giraffes, waterbucks, and even elephant herds. Rest in the afternoon, then go on an evening night drive to look for leopards and hyenas.
  • Day 4: Second walking safari or full-day riverbank game drive. In the dry season, witness hundreds of buffalo crossing the river. Spend the night at a riverside camp listening to lions roar as you fall asleep.

Day 5: Fly to Livingstone

Fly via Lusaka to Livingstone and check into a hotel in Victoria Falls town. In the evening, take a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River to see hippos, crocodiles, and toast to Africa’s setting sun.

Day 6: Full Day at Victoria Falls

Walk the Zambia side trails in the morning and face the misty rainbows at Knife Edge Bridge. During the dry season, book the Devil’s Pool in advance. In the afternoon, opt for bungee jumping off the Victoria Falls Bridge (111m), a gorge swing, or white-water rafting. End your day with dinner at a restaurant overlooking the Zambezi River.

Day 7: Departure

Spend the morning visiting the Livingstone Museum to learn about colonial exploration history and the Lozi royal artifacts. Then depart from Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport, or cross the bridge to continue your journey in Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls town.

Tips

  • Walking safaris generally require participants to be at least 12 years old. A 200–400mm lens is recommended for photography throughout the trip.
  • Most camps are all-inclusive (accommodation & two safaris), though drinks and alcohol may incur extra charges.
  • From September to October, it’s very dry — don’t forget sunscreen, lip balm, and a dust mask.
