Grasmere

Grasmere is nestled in the heart of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, England, and takes its name from Grasmere Lake located to the south of this charming little village. It is considered one of the most popular villages in Cumbria. The village owes much of its fame to the British Romantic poet — William Wordsworth, who was born here and lived here for 14 years, calling it “the loveliest spot that man hath ever found.”

With a small population, Grasmere is a tranquil village through which a winding stream flows all the way to Grasmere Lake. The peaceful village is surrounded by moorland and mountains, creating a romantic atmosphere. The walls of the old cottages are coated with pebble-dashed plaster, while the blue-gray slate cottages and winding streets compete for visitors’ attention. Inns, galleries, and tourist shops stand alongside beautiful Victorian-style villas. St Oswald’s Church, located in the center of the village, dates back to the 13th century and is also the resting place of William Wordsworth. Nearby is the famous Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, a must-visit for gingerbread lovers; it has been renowned since the 19th century and also sells butter infused with liquor, which is absolutely delicious.
