Rennes is located in the Rennes Basin at the confluence of the Ille and Vilaine rivers in northwestern France. It is the capital of the Brittany region and the Ille-et-Vilaine department, and the tenth-largest city in France. Since ancient times, Rennes has been the central urban hub of the Brittany region — a political, economic, and cultural center, as well as an important tourist destination.

Rennes is a city rich in tourist resources. In the heart of Rennes’ old town, along streets such as Rue de la Libération, Rue Saint-Georges, Rue Saint-Guillaume, Rue des Dames, Rue du Chapitre, Rue Saint-Michel, and around Place Saint-Anne, you can still find beautifully preserved 16th-century half-timbered houses that exude classic elegance. The Palace of the Parliament of Brittany is Rennes’ most famous 17th-century building. It was severely damaged by a fire between 1994 and was subsequently rebuilt. On the Place de la Mairie, you’ll find the 18th-century Rennes Town Hall and Opera House. Other attractions include the Chapel of Saint Yves, the Museum of Brittany Folklore, Thabor Park, and the Palace of the Brittany Regional Council.
