Jules Verne Museum

Jules Gabriel Verne (February 8, 1828 – March 24, 1905), a French novelist, naturalist, science writer, and one of the key pioneers of modern science fiction. He wrote more than sixty science fiction novels of various lengths, collectively titled "Voyages Extraordinaires" (Voyages in Known and Unknown Worlds). With his vast body of work and significant contributions, he is hailed as the "Father of Science Fiction."

Located on a hillside overlooking the Loire River in the suburbs of Nantes in western France, the Jules Verne Museum stands prominently. Although Verne was born in Nantes, the museum is not his former residence—he was actually born on Île Feydeau in the Loire River, visible from the windows of this building, but that original home no longer exists. The museum is housed in a middle-class residence built in the late 19th century, which the city government purchased specifically to honor Verne.

The layout of the entire museum follows the original structure of the rooms, corridors, and staircases, creating an organized yet fascinating experience. The museum displays Verne’s personal belongings, translations of his works in various languages, and souvenirs inspired by the themes of his writings. The exhibition is divided into eight major thematic halls: first is Verne’s living room, featuring chairs, a Renaissance-style clock, and Oriental porcelain donated by his descendants; next is "The Beginning of Dreams"; the third hall focuses on the sea; the fourth is themed "Two Juliuses"; the fifth explores "Known and Unknown Worlds"; the sixth is "Navigators on Stage"; the seventh is a reading and playroom; and the final hall is the audiovisual room.
