Cholet

Cholet is a city in the Maine-et-Loire department of western France, situated on the banks of the Moine River, 50 kilometers southeast of Nantes. It was once the center of the Vendée uprising following the French Revolution. Today, it is an important hub for cattle and sheep markets as well as the textile industry in France, and also hosts a branch of the University of Angers.

The gardens on the ruins of the old castle, the Roman-Byzantine style Sacred Heart Church, Notre-Dame Church, Saint-Pierre Church, and other chapels are all worthwhile attractions. The Textile Museum was established to preserve the traditional machines that produced exquisite handkerchiefs, showcasing traditional craftsmanship and the region’s rich textile history. The Cholet Museum of Art and History presents local history while also featuring works by local artists and an extensive collection of modern art.
