People say that if you want to see the most beautiful auroras, head to Yellowknife (formerly known as Yellownife) in Canada. Yellowknife is located right in the center of the Aurora Oval, making it an ideal place for aurora viewing. Once in Yellowknife, Aurora Village is the top choice for witnessing the northern lights.

Aurora Village is a small settlement with Native American tents, which are modeled after the traditional dwellings of the indigenous people. As this small village is situated close to the magnetic pole, auroras appear frequently here, making it a world-renowned destination for viewing the northern lights. The best time to see the auroras at Aurora Village is from mid-August to the end of September, and from mid-November to mid-April of the following year. Under conditions of sufficient darkness, clear skies, no clouds or fog, and normal or higher solar activity levels, the auroras are almost guaranteed to be visible. The village enjoys aurora displays on approximately 240 days each year. The auroras are spectacular, stretching across the sky with long, gracefully curved ribbons that shift in color from soft green to vibrant fluorescent hues.

The flowing auroras are incredibly beautiful—soft and smooth in motion—and even the best cameras can’t fully capture their beauty. Occasionally, meteors streak across the sky alongside the auroras.
