The Atlantic Marine Museum was established in 1948 and is located in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia. It is an important marine museum in Canada. The museum is a member of the Nova Scotia Museum Association and is also the oldest and largest marine museum in Canada.

During the British colonial period, Halifax was a historic maritime capital, filled with sights related to seafaring. The Canadian naval base is still stationed in Halifax Harbour, and the Atlantic Marine Museum showcases a rich collection of maritime vessels and significant events in nautical history. On either side of the museum’s entrance are carefully displayed remnants of maritime equipment, highlighting humanity’s efforts to conquer the sea.

The Atlantic Marine Museum houses a collection of over 30,000 maritime-related artifacts, including 70 small crafts and a steamship — the CSS Acadia, a steam-powered hydrographic survey vessel launched in 1913. In addition, the museum has a collection of more than 3,000 maritime images, nautical charts, and valuable books. The public exhibitions are divided into several themed sections, including the Age of Sail, the Steam Age, small boats, the Royal Canadian Navy, the city of Halifax, and shipwrecks. Among them, a unique permanent exhibit features a model of the Titanic and some salvaged remnants, including some of the world’s most important wooden artifacts from the Titanic, such as a few surviving deck chairs and other items.
