Fort Edward

Fort Edward is located in the town of Windsor on the coast of the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia, Canada. Built in 1750 during Father Le Loutre's War, it was an important British military fortress meant to defend against American incursions.

Fort Edward played a crucial role in the deportation of the Acadians and in protecting Halifax during the American Revolutionary War. Unfortunately, most of the fort’s original structures no longer exist, leaving only a wooden blockhouse—the oldest surviving wooden blockhouse in North America. Fort Edward is one of the few remaining mid-18th century buildings in Nova Scotia. It was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1920 and as a Federal Heritage Building in 1994. In 1765, the first Windsor Agricultural Fair was held at Fort Edward. Today, it is the oldest continuously running agricultural fair in North America and is still hosted there annually, attracting numerous agriculture enthusiasts.
